Sturmey Archer gear cable

Hello,

How do I replace a Sturmey Archer gear cable?

I can't seem to get the cable out of the bit-that-changes-the-gears on the handlebars

First, we need more detail. 3,5 or 8 speed hub? Which shifter, twist, thumbie, classic trigger etc. If it's a 3 speed with a classic trigger, it uses a proprietary cable. Any of the others use a standard cable. All have their own procedure for cable change.
Post a picture if you can.

It's a 3 speed hub.

The gear shifter looks like this

OK, that is the one that requires the proprietary cable. Here's a good demo on how to change it.

Where are you located? I sell these cables, but depending where you are, shipping will cost more than the cable.

Where are you located?
I'm in the UK, so i'm a little far away from you!

I might just buy this one and try following the tutorial:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bike-Cycle...item3370f97c25

My current cable is frayed at the end and, since I want to rub the rust from the handlebars anyway, I might as well change the cable. The tutorial looks like a bit of a faff though. I've changed the gear cable on a rear derailleur before and that didn't seem to have as many steps to it.

That's the cable you need alright. The cable change is not complete until you have the adjustment dialed in. Sheldon shows how to do that part too. It ain't that hard.

SJS has a lot of S-A parts , I think they cover shipping within the Island.

https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/

you could buy one of the newer thumb shifters they use a cable not so S-A unique.
