Does a build have to go in order?

Im gonna start my summer build which is actually my first build around the first week of june. Do I need to build the bike in order or does it really matter? Its an mtb by the way, if that really matters.

you mean install the parts in a particular order? I dont think there is an order, i always installed the fork and BB first, and brakes last.

if you are asking if you have to put parts on in a certain order, then no, aside from all the very, very obvious things, like putting the bottom bracket in before you attach the cranks.

i would start with the bottom bracket, attach the cranks, derailleurs & cables & housing (if you've got them), headset, fork, stem, handlebars, brakes & cables & housing (if you've got them), rear wheel, chain, front wheel.

Seat post(to clamp the frame in the stand), BB, crank, headset, fork/stem/handlebar, brakes, ders/shifters, wheels, cables/housings. Then put on a saddle, make the final adjustment, and test ride.

Chain stay protection before chain and cables... It's so much easier that way...
Assuming your rear der. is bottom routed.
