What is this wrench? Keep or Toss?

I got this little plastic wrench in a big box of bike parts. Nothing "SunTour" I'm familiar with would have such a fitting. I admit though, that my newest SunTour parts date from the early 80s. What does it fit, and is it worth keeping? Thx...

I believe (very vague memory) that fit some kind of SunTour BB or freewheel cassette. Don't hole me to that, but don't toss it. Post the same pictures in the Classic and Vintage forum, and someone will likely make you an offer for it.

I'm with NY on this, and we usually disagree big time :)

If you dont want it, I can take it, you never know when you get in touch with those parts that need the right tool.

It work on the top caps on Suntour 's shock forks . You remove the top cap to change/replace the springs and dampers in the fork . The tool is to go to the consumer when they buy a bike ,but many shops didn't /don't , keep them in the shop .

I suspect bikeman is correct about this tool, but just in case:

SunTour did market a bottom bracket cartridge that used a splined tool for installation:

The tool seems to be unobtainium, but if anyone here knows where one might be available, please let me know. Not having it isn't a total wash, as Phil mounting rings fit this cartridge as well, but I would like to add the proper tool to my collection if possible.

I fond this link to the tool , it should help you in getting one . The only time I see this tool and use was on the forks and not on the BB units .

Regardless of what you figure out, don't throw it away! Some of these specialty tools for older bikes are getting to be impossible to find and very very valuable. There are several I'm constantly on the lookout for.... for example, anybody got a Shimano TL-FH40 lying around?

Now you would think the Shimano TL-FH40 would still be make so freehubs can be service , after all freehubs are still made . I have one ,but it not for sale , sorry .

Shimano's position is that freehubs are unserviceable and should just be replaced. I could make a tool, but I'm lazy.

+10 Its an SR Suntour, not the old Suntour. Looks like a fork cap tool to me. (That BB above is the old Suntour).

bikeman715 03-10-14 02:47 PM

The Shimano TL-FH40 tool is a nice tool to have , but if one want to service a freehub , it is easy to do without the tool , just use a punch or a screwdriver to remove the cup clockwise from the freehub and once that done then service the freehub as you would do a freewheel . I know many here would tell you not to brother and just replace it .
