Bearings for BB

Sorry - rewrite! I've ordered some bearings for my old Campy NR BB, and I'm wondering if I should be just buying whatever is on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1) or should I be getting some specialized extra hardened and more precisely made bearings? Does it make that much difference?

Thanks.
Ash

I'm unclear on what you are asking. Can you rephrase the entire post? Include information about the bike in question - what parts are on it, why you think it needs new bearings or BB unit, etc.

What?

Well basic grade 25 or better bearings are fine and there is no such thing as a campy brearing so don't pay more the on line guys will charge you 10 dollars for a 2 dollar set of bearings by saying there campy.

This is a glimpse of the future without a strong SAT test standard. Writers without their bearings. :) Andy.

Industrial Bearing supply specialist , grade 25 , bag of a 1000, clean the BB replace the balls
every couple years , so there is less of a chance of chipping out the races ..

More a glimpse of the recent past and present.

Eleven 1/4" grade 25 balls per side.

Grade 25C are actually overkill. I have used them for years and only replace them when they have lost their shine meaning they are worn.
Don't get suckered in with the ceramic balls. They are good in very high temperatures (500 degrees F) or high speed 100,000 rpm.

fietsbob 03-11-14 03:21 PM

Looks like you got retainers for those bearings ,you could press the balls out and re use them .
or just stick the balls loose in the grease you put in the cups and they will stay there.

Wanted to hop back on here to say you guys are generally dicks. Get off your high horses.

apg 06-07-14 08:21 PM

And to those of you that were helpful, thanks.

hueyhoolihan 06-07-14 09:45 PM

well, i'm going to assume i'm one of the dicks. mostly because i can be a smartass from time to time, as you'll soon see.

in any event, i can't recollect a past due reprimand that was such a long time coming. although i did have an income tax refund due me this year and the IRS kept it to settle a student loan for 800 dollars that i originally signed for in the early 80's. i figure i got away pretty cheap in that the interest and penalty was only about 200 dollars. :thumb:

glad to see our legislators are on the ball as regards our tax dollars.

just hope they show the same diligence in working out the 60 billion dollar drubbing we all took on the GM bailout.

and just, well not just, to show that i can be a smartass. i'll admit to having a high horse that i occasionally get on. he's 22 and about 16 hands. and although getting off a high horse is not all that difficult, IME, getting on one, in order to enable one to get off it, is. :)

But not you, right?
[At least my high horse is literate.]
