How can this be done? There's no braze-on b/c it was meant as a single speed.

I have no idea how I'd braze on something myself...probably not a possibility.

Do you mean a cable stop?

If so, there are clamp-on chainstay cable stops you can use.

A braze-on for what, exactly? The shift cable? You can use a clamp-on cable guide, either on the chainstay or by the bottom bracket, or a pulley like Sturmey Archer used:

Agreed, the pulley is a nice solution, but it will require a clamp-on cable stop for the front of the down or top tubes. Both the pulley and stops are readily available, so the hardest part is deciding which way you want to go.

You can run a full housing from the shifter to the hub, attaching the housing to the frame with zip ties. Easiest/cheapest way, but not the most elegant solution.

Problem solvers makes clamp-on cable stops--you could even run one cablestop on the downtube and then run the cable under the BB if you have a threaded hole to accept a cable guide. Otherwise, clamp-on cable stop + clamp on pulley as noted above.

Yes, after starting this thread I looked at pictures of the hub again and it does have a "stop" of sorts already built-in. So just as long as I get a cable down there, it will function. Zipties are ugly as hell, but they would work.

My Alfine hub uses an enclosed cable from shifter to cassette arm, ziptied to stays where needed.
