2010 Specialized Crosstrail headset choice

Hello
My bike is equipped with "1-1/8" threadless, sealed loose ball bearings". I'm trying to find a new complete headset kit that will fit my bike.
Something standard will do. I don't need a "premium" one. What choice do I have? Current one is made by Cane Creek, but there is no markings on it other than US patent number. If I can buy the same one - I will be happy with it. I maintain it twice already, but I'm not happy with the look of the surface of bearing balls. I may just replace bearings the third time I perform headset service, but I would rather replace all headset components.
I will appreciate any ideas and links.
Thanks!

I'd be surprised if this were anything but a standard 1 1/8 headset (34mm headtube ID). Pull the cups and measure. There's a jillion of them out the that will fit the bill- anywhere from $25 and up. Stack height won't much matter cuz you have enough spacer on there that can be adjusted. You'll likely need to replace the crown race, or race ring, whichever is appropriate to the new headset.

OTOH if it's still smooth when turning, why bother? They (the bearings) support some weight, but they don't see any RPM. Grease it and go.

Bought new bearings. Races looks OK, so I will replace just the bearings at the end of the summer. I'm surprised how bad bearing balls can get, while races are in pretty good shape. Lower bearing is somewhat rusty every time I take it apart, but I ride year long and also in rain, so it shouldn't be a surprise for finding some rust there. Is it possible to install headset with cartridge bearing on that bike? Is it a standard/common sized headset? I'm surprised that I got only one response. Is that question too specific? ;-)

Yes- my answer above applies to loose, caged, and cartridge bearing headsets. What matters is the frame interface, and again I'd bet yours is standard 1 1/8 (34mm). Obviously you need the proper race/ring, and upper compression ring which come with the headset.

These are cheap- Universal Cycles -- Promax PI-2 Sealed Bearing Headset

As are these- Universal Cycles -- Woodman Axis SPG Headset

There's a whole wads of others in the same class that work well too. Install 'em and go.

Current one is made by Cane Creek,
CC Company has a broad range of products.. and so their higher tier offerings may be what you desire ..

you can also just buy a bag of balls of the same size as in those retainers and stick them in the grease that you repack them with

and probably get 1 or 2 more per race in and leave the rest of the parts as is.

retainers are often used in factory assemblies to speed the job up.
