Water bottle mount on frame spin freely on my Norco.
 

My 2014 Norco threshold a2 water bottle mount holes are spinning, I have been reading up and it could possibly be a riv-nut?

Basically what happened is it initially cross thread a small amount I backed it out, and when I went to re-install the bolt it gets to about 1/4 of the way before it spins the actual fitting that is in the frame.

I am hoping it's a riv-nut as the frame is aluminum. What's the best course of action? I do have the cage mounted as I used 3 washers to space it off a bit from the point where it spins the riv nut.

should I contact norco? Or see about getting a riv-nut installed if that's what it is?

If anyone could shine some light on this for me that would be great.

What are you thinking? Talk to the seller. There is a warranty, no?

Warranty is out of Edmonton, I live in red deer so its a bit of a headache to get this fixed. Would this actually be under warranty since the first initial small bit of cross threading was done by myself.

Anyone have one of these spin on them before?

Correction from my original post, only one mount is doing this.

If there's no warranty, you can fix it using a quick-release hub, preferably a hub alone, but an entire front wheel will work. First, remove the nut and springs from the quick release. Install the QR through the hub normally. Now screw the protruding threaded rod of the QR into the water bottle rivnut with the QR handle in the "open" position exactly like you would on the bike, using the water bottle boss as the "nut". Now close the QR with force. This will pull the rivnut up against the hole in the frame, securing it. Basically, you're using the QR setup as a rivnut tool.

Thanks for the answers guys. I will keep an eye on it and if it ends up being a problem this year I will be grudgingly bring it to Edmonton.

Check to see if your local shop as the riv-nut setting tool?

Once it's set, I'd also run a tap through it to clean up the threads.
