Advise on rust treatment

Yesterday I bough a used bike off of craigslist for an awesome price! I've been riding an '84 Fuji Sagres for the last 3 years and felt like I needed a little bit of an upgrade. No pun intended!

The only problem is that there is some rust on the bike, mainly just components. When I bought it I knew good and well that I needed to do some work to get this bike up to par. The only problem is I'm unsure how to tackle this kind of maintenance. Would anyone have any experience in using Metal Rescue? I was considering dipping all the bolts that have rust along with the brakes (with no pads) into the stuff to remove the rust. Give them a good cleaning, lube them back up, and send them on their way. I figured for the stem bolts I can just buy a new set, but what about the bolts on the brakes?

The corrosion is mainly on the spokes and tube valves. I figure Ill try to use some steel wool to try and remove as much as possible. The valves aren't really an issue as I feel its a good idea to replace the tubes anyways.

The cassette, crank, and front and back derailleurs look too be in pretty good shape. Ill completely degrease it all, get it nice and shiny, and lube it up properly.

I would love any advise on how to clean any part on this bike. Im fairly new to cycling and haven't done too much maintenance myself. I have a friend do it for me on my other bike. I think its time I learned some thing. Thanks in advance!
