Bottom Bracket Shell Width measurement

I have a vitus 992 and I wanted to measure the bottom bracket for replacement. However there seems to be a black rubber ring on one side of the BB shell and I was wondering if that is to be included in the measurements. I have attached a picture. The black ring is on the left side of the picture right beside the serial number.

...no. That's either a spacer (dubious) or more likely the lip of the threaded cup that holds that part of the unit in place. Just measure the shell.

+1

BB shell width is just what it says it is. The width of the frame's BB shell, exclusive of any added spacers. I suspect that the 2mm(?) spacer was added wither to improve chainline,or to fit a spindle made for a 70mm BB shell.

Great thanks. I just wasn't sure if it was a part of the frame.
