removing wheel

I have an old bike, I want to take the front wheel off.

There are no drop outs, just holes at the ends of the forks where the axle goes through. There are cones on the axles, so it won't pull through.

How can I remove the front wheel ?

Just spread the front fork. Get in front of the bike with the wheel against your chest and a grab hold of both forks and spread. You might find it easier to do one side then the other.

Your fork probably really does have dropouts that are open at the bottom, but it also has some cheesy little tabs that fit into a slot in the fork to keep the front wheel from falling off while you're riding. The fact that you're asking this question is a tribute to how well they work.

Loosen the axle nuts till they almost fall off. Set the bike on the ground and try to pull the little tabs out at the bottom and push them up at the top.

Why the hell did they ever even make them like that in the first place? Was it only to prevent lawsuits?

That's why those things are called "lawyer" tabs.

My fork doesnt have lawyer tabs. Its a thru axle. I dont think they would ever need a lawyer for that

The tabs this guy is talking about is just a tab with a hole in it. Its not even a dropout. Its a real PITA to change the wheel out...
