Shimano CS-6700 Ultegra Compatibility

I am upgrading some components on my Trek Madone 3.1, full specs in link... 2012 Madone 3.1 H2 (Compact) - Bike Archive - Trek Bicycle

The crank set has been upgraded with a Shimano Ultegra 53/39.

The current Shimano cassette is Tiagra 12t/30t with a Shimano 105 short cage RD.

I read some posted opinions on Amazon referring that Shimano claims the Shimano CS-6700 Ultegra is NOT compatible with the 105 RD.
Then others posted it would work.

I plan on ordering the same configuration of 12t/30t for the CS-6700.

Anyone have an experience or an opinion about this?

Thanks in advance.

Bikes: too many bikes from 1967 10s (5x2)Frejus to a Sumitomo Ti/Chorus aluminum 10s (10x2), plus one non-susp mtn bike I use as my commuter

The serious issue is take up capacity. I believe (check this because I didn't) most Shimano short cage RD have 27t of take up capacity. Your combination has 18t in the cassette + 14t in the chainset, for a total of 32t.

Take up capacity has some fudge room, but I suspect this may be too much. (Hillrider probably tried something similar once and would know). You can cheat this if you measure the chain so it loops the big/big + 1" to spare, and avoid running the inner ring with the smallest few rear sprockets.

One trick that raises RD take up capacity slightly is a larger lower pulley (leave the original upper). That and careful chain measurement may make this workable, or limit the unusable combination to the 39/12 or or 13.

Since it currently has a 30t cog.. I'd think it would work. Unless there is something I'm missing.
