Square-Drive Lockring Tools
I have a Park Shimano-compatible lockring tool, and need to get a Campy-compatible tool. Since I also have a torque wrench, it'd be nice to get something that accepts a sensible-sized square drive.
The Park tool needs to be grabbed with a wrench around the external flats (which are > 1"!). The only Campy lockring tool I can find with a square drive is the Spin Doctor one (taking a 1/2" drive, which I have). A monster socket entirely over the tool is another option but the socket - which would never be used anywhere else, since I don't work on tractors - is one more thing to buy... Spin Doctor seems to have an "OK" reputation; are there other options? |
The IceToolz Campagnolo lockring tool also accepts 1/2" drive socket or torque wrenches.

I have the "Spin Doctor" Campy lockring/square taper bottom bracket tool which, as you note, does take a 1/2" square drive and also has external hex flats that fit a 21 mm socket or box wrench. It's actually made by Lifu and has been very satisfactory.
BTW, the Park Campy lockring/bb tool (BBT-5/FR-11) has hex flats that takes a 1" socket so nothing very unusual there. |
Thanks Skydog / Hillrider. Actually, from photos of the IceToolz tool, I wonder if it's out of the same factory as the Spin Doctor one.
You're quite right, the Park flats are just 1". It's not unusual (ba-dada-dadada) but I was thinking that it since I don't already have the socket I'd be buying two tools where one would do. Now that I look, seems that many BB tools also use the same size, so a 1" socket could come in handy for more than one thing. |
