english pedal threads on an old Gran Sport crankset?

Anyone know enough about vintage campy GS cranksets to tell me if I can thread them with new(er) pedals? I love spd's, and the Christophe toe straps are killing my feet. The 3-arm Gran Sport is reasonably rare, so rethreading is not an option.

Thanks

I thought pedal spindles were hardened. If so, re-threading them with common tools would be difficult.

I've never tried it, though.

I think you are pretty safe. French pedal threads are another matter ...

I think the biggest Italian - BSC thread mismatch problems arose with freewheels on aluminum hubs.

The pedals of your bike will be the common "English" threading. The right pedal is a right-hand threading and the left pedal is a left-hand threading. On older steel cottered cranks, inspect often for cracking.

Mike- I meant rethread the crankset. (btw, I agree pedal spindles would be dificult to rethread, as I have actualy used them to straighten threads on old cranks)

Calvin- the Campagnolo Gran Sport crankset (circa 1973) is a cotterless setup, but thanks for the advice.

JohnE- Yeah, I made the mistake of accidentaly threading standard pedals onto the old Solida crankset on my Astra. I got them screwed pretty well snug before remembering it was french threaded. I didnt want to repeat my mistake with my "nice" bike.

thanks all!

There are two kinds of "English" threading, one of them is the same as the threading we use now on all bikes, so try it.
