Cantilever/V-brake help

Hey, Ive been riding 990 U-brakes since Ive been riding. I recently found a deal on a nice frame and it comes with Canti Mounts, which from what I understand are the same mounts V-brakes use. I know this is basic stuff to you guys but I have NO experience with them. First off, do they make a plate I can buy to use 990's on canti mounts. If not I plan on using my odyssey monolever and an odyssey linear cable for the V-brake. Ive had mixed messages on whether this will work, some say it will and some say Ill need to mod my lever. I found some Avid SD3 brakes on ebay, these will work on my bike right? For a bmx does it matter if its a front or back brake? Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds good to me.

Most brake levers for flat bar bikes have adequate cable pull for the linear-pull brake. If you're planning to use a rotor, all bets are off because I have only limited experience with BMX and freestyle stuff.

yeah Im not using a gyro. So im just going to run a monolever with an ody linear cable to a v-brake. Id like to find a plate that will convert the canti mounts to 990 mounts. Anyone know if these are made? Thanks

I use an Avid SD5 on my BMX. I found a U brake to be basically useless. An SD3 would provide more than enough braking power, and there's no difference between the F/R. The only thing I had to do was flip the conical washers around to bring the brake arms in a bit, as my rims are a bit wide.

Yes there are still adapter plates made, DNA, and Hoffman still makes some. Although I doubt that your current brake lever will work with linear pull brakes. I use 990's on a FS bike and have no problems with them at all.

If you decide to do that have you given any thought to your cable routing?
