Groupset Weights Over Time
I am (maybe someday) considering a small or serious upgrade to my bike. The 'high end' path is to completely replace my current 1996/7 Campy Chorus groupset (8 speed) with a new (probably) Campy Chorus groupset.
While this is not really the point I am curious about something - what has happened to groupset total weights between the mid 90's and now? There is a ton of data out there regarding current groupset weights, but not much on the older stuff. Thanks. dave |
As a broad generality, each successive group at a given level in the pecking order will be lighter (and more expensive) than it's predecessor. Aluminum replaced steel and carbon has replaced aluminum for most groups, particularly the upper level ones. I can't quantify the actual weight differences except to note they are usually significant.
