Creeking bottom bracket
 

My 2012 Giant Escape 2 has developed a creek in the bottom bracket, has around 2000 miles on the bike. It will creek wile pedaling or just having my feet on the pedals. I have ruled out the pedals by putting the cheap stock pedals back on so my guess is crank arms (which appear to be tight checking with a 8mm t handle allen wrench) or bottom bracket. Everything else on the bike is tight. I would rather buy the tools to do the job myself so Im going to need a crank arm puller tool and a bottom bracket tool. Can somewon recommend the correct Park tools for the job and would just tightening the bottom bracket solve this issue? Also, I had the chain off this morning and didnt notice any play or noises while on the repair stand. Thanks in advance for any help.

Not sure what threading that SR Suntour crank needs for the Park Crank extractor. The Giant site doesn't give specifics as to whether it's square taper or splined and it just says "sealed cartridge BB". A wrench at a Giant dealing shop will know. But tightening sufficiently with Loctite on the crank bolt should secure the crank. If it's the BB... I still like Teflon tape wrapping on the threads with sufficient tightening. I've never had a crank square taper or threaded BB creak doing these things.

For about the cost of an extraction tool you could get a set of self-extracting crank bolts -- just another option. Also, you'll want a torque wrench for this job.

Not familiar with self extracting crank bolts but do have torque wrenches. Can anybody give me torque specs for crank arms and BB bracket?

Just ordered the tools. Park crank puller CWP-7 and Park bottom bracket tool BBT-32. :)

Recieved tools yesterday, left side BB retaining ring unscrewed by hand so that was the cause of the noise. I retorqued both sides of the BB to 30 ft lbs and all is good now. At least now, I have all the tools for this bike to do all my own wrenching and maintence. :D

glad yours was an easy fix. I once had a noisy BB and my LBS said it just needed tightening, which they did. within a mile the noisy BB turned into a garbage disposal. wound up bringing it to another BS (not so local) and they just replaced it.
