Mavic Elite rebuilt wheel question
Just a few years ago I bought a set of Mavic K Elite wheels to be my main training wheels as well as my pit/truck backup race wheels. Before the year was out there were cracks at three or more spoke holes on the rear wheel so I had a warranty rebuild by Mavic. A few days ago the rebuilt wheel failed at one spoke hole after I hit a pebble, but that spoke hole had a very different look from the others. On each side of it there was a small and very regular dimple, like some kind of mechanical press had done something. Perhaps that something was placing some new material with threads on a rim that failed during a build? I could see Mavic using factory seconds as replacements for rebuilt wheels, but I just don't know.
So, my simple question is has anyone else seen anything like this?

I'm guessing that what you are seeing is something related to the seam of the rim. Rims start out as straight lengths that are then rolled into a hoop and joined. if it's immediately opposite the valve, then that's your answer.

It was just next to the stem hole, so I guess that it isn't my answer.
