campy chorus crank + bottom bracket compatibility!
Hi guys! First post here! I'm building my first bike! I do have building experience but this is my first full frame up build. I was gonna buy a full veloce group set but have been piecing together a franken gruppo of veloce/chorus/centaur components. Now I know there's a chorus specific bb but its quite expensive and as far as I know the quality of your bb isn't of extreme importance. Would any square taper bb that fits my frame work fine? The frame is a leader ld-736r.
Thanks for reading everyone! |
Depends which version of Chorus crank you have. The last square taper Chorus cranks used a very short bottom bracket spindle, 102 mm I believe. As well Campagnolo cranks do not use the more common JIS taper, you need an ISO spindle.

Its a 2013 I believe. Would a veloce bb work? Maybe I should just bring it into my lbs and get them to have a looksee

If it is indeed a square taper, is is much older than 2013. A 2013 would be for 11 speed and would be the Ultra torque version. Good news is that the bottom bracket cups are not that expensive. Take it to your local bike shop for a look, Veloce square taper bottom bracket spindles are too long for a Chorus crank

Thanks for the info guys a really appreciate it! I may still go with the veloce group set I found a good deal on the full groupset for 460 Canadian. Either way you guys have been very helpful because I'm new to the campy stuff! Cheers :)

If you live in Canada, you go to source for all things Campy is Cycles Marinoni in Lachenaie Quebec, just outside Montreal. They are the Canadian distributor for Campagnolo and also a complete service center for repairs. Great people to deal with, the Marinoni family is steeped in cycling and very nice to deal with.

Hey thanks for the recommendation I'll check them out. Do they sell parts? I'm in a tight budget and trying to keep my gruppo under 500. 460 seems like a killer deal for a 2014 veloce gruppo.

Marinoni has almost everything, they sell small parts, so if you need some small item they can help you. They sell both as a distributor and they also have a retail store at their warehouse

I'll definitely check them out. Thanks again for all the info you'll be seeing more of me as I build my bike :) sub 200 wheels are next stay posted!
