Avid BB7 Adjust Problem

2 Attachment(s)
Hello.
I'm having a problem with my Avid BB7 Caliper.
When i want to adjust the brake on the bigger side with the smaller adjustment button i have a problem.
The adjusment button works fine but only in one direction. When i want to retract it inside the stem-end just falls.
The stem-end has a little spring that goes inside. If i press it down it fits wheel but if i want to retract it from the adjustment wheel it falls off.
What can i do ? Is the spring to loose ?

I've no idea what this 'stem end' is you're talking about,or what you mean by "adjust the brake on the bigger side with the smaller adjustment button". If either of the adjustment knobs will only turn in one direction, that would mean the pad is at the outer limit of its range. I'm guessing maybe the caliper is mounted off center and maybe the pad retention spring is broken?

The pics you posted are for tearing the caliper apart for servicing, not adjusting it. Please post pictures of the actual brake. Try to get one looking down into the caliper so we can see how the rotor is positioned in the caliper.

Problem solved I think, the OP sent me a PM describing the problem a bit better.

QUESTION.

Hi. I'm having some problems with my Avid BB7.
I have read this topic
missing BB7 internal part- necessary?

My problem is similar.
I had that ring put on.

Now this is my problem.
When i try to adjust the brake from the small red adjustment button it works well. The pressure foot goes to the disc. But if i want to make some space between it and the disc he won't retract. If i press it by hand it goes in back in the drive cam.
The drive cam is working nice, only the pressure foot stays behind.
It may be a problem with that ring ?
ANSWER

The pressure foot does not automatically retract into the drive cam when you turn the adjuster dial to move the pad away from the rotor, the pressure foot needs to be physically pushed back into the drive cam by squeezing the brake lever or turning the 'Torque Arm' to activate the brake.

What you are describing sounds normal, it's just the way the BB7 works.

Yes, problem solved. Compared it with my old caliper and they are the same. Did not know you have to push manually to adjust that part.
The pressure foot is refered in the service manual as "STEM END".
