Giant Rapid 2 2011 Bottom Bracket

Hello all, I hope you can help.

I have owned my much loved Giant Rapid 2 2011 (Rapid 2 (2011) | Giant bikes UK & Ireland official website | UK / Ireland) for the past several years. Unfortunately, over time, the bottom bracket has developed a little play. I have an excellent cycle shop near me who are happy to replace the part for £35 however I would first like to have an attempt myself so that I can learn more about bike maintenance.
I know I have a Shimano R453 crankset and “BC 1.37x24” is printed along the bottom bracket.

Having scoured the web I have worked out that I will need Shimano Tiagra 4600 Bottom Bracket 68mm in an English thread (Shimano Tiagra 4600 Bottom Bracket | Chain Reaction Cycles).
Would anybody with more experience be able to confirm if this the correct replacement and/or recommend a suitable replacement/upgrade.

Many thanks!!

G.

That bottom bracket will not work with your crank. On the link you give for your bike it is clearly stated that your bike has an octalink bottom bracket

Being more specific, you need an Octalink V2 BB Shimano ES51 Octalink Bottom Bracket | Chain Reaction Cycles you will need to measure up for what you need. (should be 68 x to match what is currently fitted)

For the quote the LBS gave you, if you don't have the tools, it's a pretty good deal.

In order to remove the crank, you will need a crank puller, and you will need a splined tool to remove the bottom bracket, so your cost would exceed the quote the bike shop gave you

Thank you all for your responses. I thought I would give a quick update to help others who may find themselves in the same situation as me.

A friend lent me his ICE bike repair kit which had all the tools I needed. I also noticed on the link it stated my BB was an octalink however this did not look right. Anyhow I fitted the Tiagra 4600 BB and it worked perfectly!!. The only thing I did was kept the plastic o ring and refitted on the left side.

Once again,

Thanks.
