BB5500 or BB5700 for Surly Pacer build

I have a Surly Pacer frame and I was looking to build most of it per the spec from Surly, which includes a Shimano 105 drivetrain. However, I do not understand why Surly specifies bottom bracket BB5500 with the remaining items being from the 5700 groupset. Will either one work as long as I get the English thread? Thanks.

The BB5500 is an octalink bottom bracket, no way it will work with a 5700 series crank

The BB5500 has to be a typo if the crank is really an FC-5750. The BB5500 is a 9-speed Octalink design used for the FC-5500/5503 cranks and will not work with the 5750 crank which requires an external bearing bottom bracket like the BB-5700. So if you get an FC-5750 crank, you must get the matching BB5700 or the Ultegra (BB6700) equivalent.

Ok. I'll order the 5700.

This is my second build. The first was a Kona *****Tonk and I went with SRAM Rival. I'm still learning, but I really enjoy it.

Thanks for the help!
