fork/headset inquiry
4 Attachment(s)
Greetings, I upgraded my fork today from a suntour XCR to a rockshox xc32 im using a 1 1/8 steerer tube non tapered. i noticed the new fork didn't have a race crown, i tried transferring the old race crown to the new fork but it didn't seem to fit...if i switch to a sealed bearing headset will this eliminate the problem? sorry if i got the names of these parts incorrect lol im not that familiar with them yet. fork with barcode is the new one. hope you could help me with this one thanks.http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=401918http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=401919http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=401920http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=401921

Crown races come with the headset, not the fork.
Crown races usually do take some force to seat properly. People will usually use a tube/pipe sized just to fit over the steerer to be able to knock the race into position. Switching to another type of headset is unlikely to help. Disclaimer: there used to be some issue about headsets being either ISO or JIS, which made a difference of some tenths of a mm. But AFAIK that doesn't apply to modern MTB stuff. |
What is with the first picture? Has your headset cup broken off from the press-fit flange?
edit: correction it's just an arse-about headset - Joel |
i tried fitting the old crown race but it was still a few inches away unlike in the old fork when it got tight for me to push by hand, anyway ill check on that ISO and JIS thing since my frame could be about 5 yrs old or so by now. that would be perfect if i didnt have to spend another 1500 pesos($30 or so)for a headset. i guess ill try pushing it down some more
tomacropod that's the cap that covers the bearing dunno what its called but im sure im not using a sealed bearing headset. edit: correction it's just an arse-about headset <-- i dont understand my english comes from asia :P thanks for the quick replies |
