Derailleur cage scratched by chain, is it normal?
Hi,
I am a MTB newbie and just received my new bike. Took it out for a 10 mins ride and shifted the gears around. After the short ride, I noticed that the rear derailleur cage is scratched probably by the chain. Is this normal? do I need to go back to the LBS to let them have alook at it? Pix below. Thank you very much. http://cheebye.com/scratched.jpg |
Wouldn't happen in use but will easily happen when the rear wheel is off the bike and the chain is slack and not wrapped around the top pulley. IMO, it's totally inconsequential and a non-issue.

Could also be some debris got caught in the chain - a small twig or such.
Still normal wear-and-tear, though. It's gonna get scratched, dinged, and dirty. If it don't, you ain't doing it right. |
Its an off road MTB & its just the 1st of many scratches ..
Wouldn't notice it but for the black finish . paint over the scratches if it bothers you .. |
agreed: first of many scratches

On my mountain bike, it's easier to keep track of the places that are not scratched.
