What is your homebuilt bike repair stand

Using a simple storage footstool and a Target brand swivel barstool this is what I mainly use to make my repairs. If I need to adjust my gears I use my ceiling pulley. I ain't got the money for a nice stand. Nor the space. Lol

Whats your ghetto rig? Or pro rig.

I use a rope in the rafters. I have a loop for the seat on one end and the rope runs through two eye hooks then I tie it to the handlebars. It swings but I can put a lot of force on it too.

I use the bicycle carry rack on the back of my car. I have one for two bikes. I use the outside one further away from the car.

Bike storage rack from Lowe's which cost just several bucks. It's attached at the bottom of a wooden shelve that hangs from the ceiling. I have an easy access from both sides. No need for a fancy stand for diy/home mechanic. Works perfectly, and it folds when not in use.

or bike rack on my car. It holds 4 bikes, and if I hang my bike at the very end, I have an easy access from both sides.

I got a decent stand on Amazon for $50. Works well enough for what I need to do. I've had bikes every which way in it and though it's not rock solid, it holds everything fairly still even if it's not really balanced well. this one: Robot Check

At home its a Craigs List find Park stand . If you hang out long enough you can find a good used stand for the price of cheap new. There was a Work Force brand just this week for $50.

But I have to admit that I store my primary commuter on 2, 2x4 boards (like the lowes stand) and do basic maintenance there. I have wrapped the 2x4s with some scrap closed cell foam to protect the frame.

For on the road, I have some cordage (strong string) and old strips of tubes in my seat tool bag. These have come in very handy to suspend bike for field repairs and or secure dumpster finds:).

For years I tuned my bicycles vertically hanging from the front wheel.

As a kid it was a piece of cord tied to the ceiling light fixture in my bedroom.

Now I have the Craigslist find Park pro stand.

I kind of cringe when I see bikes upside down- contact points in the gravel/pavement.

I usually attatch my bike to my cycleops trainer. I can fix most anything that way.

I got tired of rigging up a work around. I took a used pair of 11R vice grips, some scrap square tubing, round tubing, and angle iron, and proceeded to weld up my own work stand. Fully adjustable for height, rotation, and extension. Guess you could call it the work around to get around the work around I was tired of.

Also had rigged up something out of 2x4s off a shelving unit, utilizing notched pieces of wood and a c-clamp.

And they I got a portable stand. So much better...

I've ordered a length of UHMW angle through work, to replace the make do "padding" on the clamp now.

Boy do I feel like a cheap skate. You all made very creative stands.

To fix a flat tire last week, I laid a 1" diameter a branch that fell from a maple tree in my yard on my gardening table (fancy words for 'workbench'). The branch projected a foot or two past the edge of the table. I put a bag of dirt on the end of the branch laying on the table top to hold the stick. Paint protection was provided by a piece of 1" slit foam insulation swiped from a heating pipe in the basement. I set the bike's top tube over the foam on the wood stick.

By sliding the bike's top tube forward or aft and angling it on the stick (err... Custom Adjustable Arm) I could tilt the bike so the front, rear or neither tire touched the ground. Not the greatest, but my Fred Flintstone stand did the job.

I used to have 2 pieces of unistrut with a J-hook in the end of each piece hanging from the rafters. I could hinge them up and out of the way when not in use. I got all the parts from scrap pile at work.

Since I've moved, it's time to build a new model. Not sure yet on how that will go.
