Bent Frame !! HELP
5 Attachment(s)
So i have a frame in my possesion currently that upon examining appeared to be bent near the lug under the down tube. there is some suspicious dots also. when i removed the headset (removed it with my hands, dont know if thats supposed to come off as easy..) the head tube was aslo bent. so im worried about it. it doesent look as bad but still..
heres some pics: (bent right under the lug, thats a down tube, otherwise everything else is good) |
Frontal collision damage.. go find another frame.

A frame builder could repair it by replacing the damaged tubes and repainting the frame but the cost will be prohibitive unless the frame has great value otherwise. Scrap it. |
the guy told me that he had it sandblasted and repainted, and that he hadnt noticed this dent. yeah i can take the headset (one thats on the down part of the head tube) off with my hands no problem. might get it for $30. and i think it is some miele frame. fork is trash tho.

Apart from the finish looking like crap, the frame is trashed. Waste of any money. That frame should go to the scrap heap.

Yup. I tossed out a frame when head-on collision damaged it. I kinda regret not cutting it up --because I suspect a picker came along and grabbed it for rebuild.
You should probably destroy it. |
Spread rear triangle & seat post can make a nice stool with a really wide saddle..

I don't know where you are from but a good frame builder in you area should be able to render the death blow to the frame for you or tell you he can save it. I would solicit his input first, the internet will tell you that a bent Renyolds 753r frame and fork can not be straightened but i have 5200 miles on a now beautiful frame straightened for $80 by Andy Gilmour in Tucson that is as straight and true as any frame I have come upon in my 50 years on bikes. He has just repainted for me and it is a gem, can't wait to build it up. Andy would not charge you to tell you it is gone.
