Crankset change?

My daughter has a 2012 Giant TCR A1. The drivetrain is SRAM Force and it has a compact (50/34) front chainset. The crank also has a 110 BCD.

I would like to change the front gearing to 53/39.

Do I need to get a whole new crankset? I am not finding 53/39 gears in the 110 BCD?

Do I get the SRAM Force 53/39 crankset with 130 BCD in the GXP version?

What other options are available instead of the SRAM Force?

Will I have to make the chain longer?

Thanks

There are certainly 110-39t, & 110-53t chainrings made , and yes the largest chainring being larger will make a new longer chain desirable .

aftermarket chainrings are many TA of France are Top tier. 7075t6

left over from Campags foray into MTB components I have a 110 52-42 set-but thy are not ramped and pinned ..

Salsa, BlackSpire, Vuelta etc. whole bunch of brand names to tout.

I've got a Rival GXP 53/39 that was only used for a couple of rides for sale.

I thought at first this was maybe a 24" wheeled bike, but appears to be full size. Why would you want to go to 53 teeth and give up the lower gears on top of that. Even someone who's a Cat II racer would be fine with a 50-11 or 50-12 top gear. In fact I raced Cat III crit's back in the 70's/80's and never had more than a 48/13.

You could probably post a trade ad in the local buy and sell - most people want to move to a compact crank from a traditional. Your chain will probably be OK as is - it's only 3 teeth and you only wrap half the chainring. That's less than a full link.

I'm also puzzled as to why your daughter needs a 53T big chainring? As noted, a 50/11 or 50/12 high gear is as much as most strong riders can use effectively, never mind a higher gear yet. If the 34T small chainring gives too much of a gap, you could change out only the inner ring for a 39T or so at lower cost. BTW, what is the current cassette? Perhaps a cassette with a smaller largest cog and closer gear spacing is worth considering if the 34xX is now too low.

I am sorry.

Don't be sorry, your gear choices are your choice.

You can find the larger chainrings for the 110BCD, TA rings come to mind. Personally, I would probably seek out a replacement crankset, maybe through eBay, then resell the compact set to recoup some [most or perhaps all] the cost. That is if you have no plans to go back to the compact crank. Longer chain depends on how much chain slack you have now. .
