Tube Question
 
I had front tire flat on Monday, found the spot of the leak, made sure there was nothing in the tire causing the flat and put in a new inner tube with an unthreaded presta valve and have been riding all week. This morning, I have front flat and when I pull the tube out there is a small hole near the valve stem on the rim side of the tube. I grab a new tube off the shelf and noticed that the rubber was tacky (I would usually put in bag of talcum powder to remove the tackiness but I did not today) insert the tube, mount the tire, place the nut on the presta valve and pump up the tire. At 100 psi the tube explodes and upon inspection the spot of the blow out was at the valve. I am thinking that I got the nut on to tight and that along with the tacky tube; the tube could not expand properly and created a pinch. Put in another tube and no problems.

Does my analysis of what happened sound correct or should I look for something else?

FYI – I did check the rim and rim tape and did not find any issues

An explosion means the tire blew off the rim - occasionally the tire will re-seat afterwards, but a cut or puncture will not explode.

Almost certainly you had a bit of tube pinched under the tire bead, and this is easy to do right at the valve, that's why you should push the valve up inside the tire to make sure it's free before you inflate. Not likely that the nut itself was the problem, but possibly the issue would've fixed itself if you didn't have the nut on.

+1.

I always inflate tires to about 30 PSI, deflate and pinch all around the tire, check again that the valve is well-seated, then inflate to full pressure. I never mess with those valve nuts, as I chuck them once I am ready to mount a new tube.

Don't tighten the nut initially. Just thread it on enough to get the pump head onto the valve fully if needed.
Put in a "few" PSI and squeeze the tire around the rim to make sure it's evenly seated.
PUSH the valve IN and seat the tire at that spot.
Let the air out so the tube can "normalize" in case of folds etc.
Add a few PSI and check tire & valve seating.
Air up to desired pressure.
Snug up presta nut.

+1) ^^What He Said^^ Attention to details of tire installation was not Adequate .
