2008 Intense XVP BB identification help
2 Attachment(s)
Hi guys
Have a 2008 Intense Spider XVP that's just been serviced. (Here in Cape Town, South Africa) However, the service shop couldn't replace the BB as they didn't have the tool or something to do it. They said they think it requires a non standard tool or BB to do this. The crank squeaks a lot when I pedal hard, and the service shop owner said he thinks the problem lies with the BB. Anyway, I then started googling and came upon this forum. Now I'm very novice when it comes to these things, so I hope I'm giving enough information: Here's details about the bike Frame: BikePedia BB - It says the frame takes a 73mm English BB shell However, I still don't know what BB it has in, so I took a couple of pictures of the crank, which says on the side RaceFace Evolve XC If possible, I'd like to know the following things:
I'm sorry if this is similar to other questions already asked, just wanted to make sure I get the correct information for this job! http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=427480http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=427481 |
It's an Isis bottom bracket and crank. You'll need an Isis crank puller and Isis bottom bracket tool. These are pretty common. You then replace the bottom with one the same measurement as the one you removed. If will probably be a 73 x 113.

- Joel Much appreciated. PS - When first I read "Isis" I thought April fools have come early and you we're referring to those nutjobs in Paris :) |
The squeaking may not mean that your bottom bracket is finished. Once you remove the crank, check the bottom bracket to see if the bearings are running smoothly. If your shop doesn't have the tools needed to change an Isis bottom bracket, I would not rely on their diagnosis of the source of your problem. On any dual suspension bike there are many places other than the bottom bracket that could cause your problem
