Grease (part 2)
I was able to get to my BB tonight and once I got the cranks off and saw white grease, it made me lean towards using the same kind. Purely for warranty purposes because I know how specific manufactures and LBS can be. They want it their way.
Can someone tell if this is lithium or teflon? I believe those are the only white greases (?), and whichever it is, what brand would most bike shops use as far as popularity in cycling is concerned. http://i1132.photobucket.com/albums/...ps5elgnytq.jpg |
You are WAY WAY WAY overthinking this.
From the color I suspect it's a lithium based grease, since the teflon greases tend to be a whiter white, but you asked earlier and got a strong consensus that there was tremendous latitude in what would be acceptable. As for the bike shop choices, they too would be across the board. |
If you clean out the old grease from the bearings and cups and use a high quality grease to replace it you should be fine.I use a product called (MPC) PL-10 a extreme pressure lithium complex grease. It works well under adverse conditions like BB's and hubs. There are many other choices the most important one is the maintenance itself.
