Workstand recommendations
 

My bike is aluminum frame so is not very heavy.
Am looking for a sturdy, reliable, and well balanced stand from a reputable company for maintenance and minor repairs
Ease of storage and set up is a plus.
Suggestions please.

I have the Park PCS-10. It was a little bit pricey but is built well enough to last a life time. The bike mechanic that ordered it for me was impressed as well and bought himself one.

For maintenance and minor repairs any decent stand will do. The major players are Park Tools and Feedback Sports and any of their stands will certainly meet your needs. I'd avoid the no-name <$50 specials sold by Amazon, etc. BTW, with an aluminum frame, don't clamp it by the toptube, clamp it by the seatpost. The frame tubes are easily damaged by too much clamp pressure.

Park and others do make what are called "race stands" that clamp the bike by one set of dropouts and support it under the bottom bracket thus avoiding clamping the tubes or seatpost but these are specialty items and require removing one wheel or the other for any use.

I have the Spin Doctor Pro G3 Work Stand and have been pretty happy with it. If you wait for a sale you can get a pretty good deal on it.

Love my Feedback Sports Sport-Mechanic Work Stand. We have a family of six with usually upwards of 7-10 bikes in the garage at any given time, so the stand gets a lot of use. It hasn't had a single problem in over a year's use.

Park and Trek's Bontrager Brands are Good.

Who makes "Bontrager" stands for Trek? Actually I should ask who made Bontrager repair stands since the Bontrager web site only lists a few repair parts, and no longer the complete stands.

Years ago I bought a "Wrench Force" repair stand when it was Trek's house brand. It was made by what is now known as Feedback Sports and is nearly identical to their current Pro Sports model. At that time Trek was closing out the Wrench Force brand and I got the stand, the accessory truing stand and the carrying case all for a very attractive price. One of the better purchases I've made.

I got a Yakima Repair stand used at the 89 Trade Show, for almost Free .. 2 tubes Bent like a 7 ( inverted ), hinged so they fold together ..

head uses an aluminum extrusion .. custom Dies for the purpose I suppose .. could be better , fancy High tech stuff, but adequate.

A glut of gear out there, everyone defends what they Bought Here .. So Be It.

We have the Feedback Sports stands at the shop where I volunteer. Once you get the bike mounted in the stand, they're fine, but I'm not fond of the clamping mechanism -- it takes too long to work. With light weight bikes I'm sure it's not so much of an issue, but with the 50# behemoths we see in the shop it can take two people to get a bike in the stand: one to support the bike and another to tighten the clamp.

I bought a Park PRS-3 stand for my home shop over 30 years ago and have never regretted it. One hand can quickly clamp the frame without the tedious screwing the Feedback stand needs. The Park has taken everything I've thrown at it, even our tandem, without problems.

the fellow i bought a antique commercial truing stand from for $50 [oh i got truing wheels down to a fine art now, only takes a mini :-D] was a bike shop owner mechanic. and what a workshop he made out of his double garage. heaps of different model park tool stands and a new park tool truing stand, very nice thats why he sold the old one. he had a feedback stand he showed us [i like it] and he recommends them too.

has me setting the bike down and readjusting the lever actuated clamp grip , and then trying again to get the grip and tube diameter in synch..

Where the EVT one can be cranked while you hold the bike up with the other hand ..

I don't have experience with many stands, but I've been completely happy with my Park Tool PCS-9. It's sturdy, well-balanced, and reliable, so we can check off your stated criteria. Replacement parts, should you ever need any, are available from Park Tool.

The negatives: (1) The clamp, although it's well-built and satisfactory for my needs, isn't quite as nice as the ones on Park's higher-end models. (2) The stand, when folded down, isn't super compact.

Feedback Sports user here, previously had a Minoura, but when it broke spares were impossible to find, although will give it that the stand was about 15 years old, and OOP for about 10.

You mentioned storage, but also think of where you are going to use it, as the footprint of the stand when in use may have an impact on your choice.

Yes, that is a disadvantage with the Feedback Sports stands and my "Wrench Force" stand has the same clamp. It can be frustrating to get it snug before tightening the clamping knob and I certainly can see how it wold be a hassle with a heavy bike. Otherwise, they are steady, fold up compactly and are light weight.

I bought a Spin Doctor G3 Pro, I really like it, it is easy to clamp, and will turn a bike just about any angle you can imagine. It folds up and stands in a corner all by itself.

I ended up with the Park tool PCS 9
Park is company with a good reputation for quality and service.
This is their lower end model for home use, which will be fine for my purposes.
