Vitus 979 rear wheel spacing problem
 

I am here because can't center the wheel in the frame, i don't understand why is the tire rubbing the frame since the axle is at the bottom of the dropouts, is this the normal spacing for these frames? or someone tried to coldset it? i already tried with my main bike rear's wheel (700x25) and the tire is rubbing in everypart of it.. it doesnt make it in anyway, are these frames meant to be ridden in 700x23?
i doesn't look bended at all to me, i don't see crash signs.. but the brake bridge is a little loose, it does a clunky sound if i squeeze the seatstays. The frame has a very oxidizied aluminum but nothing some sandpaper and mothers mag can't fix :)

Cant do anything but Re dish the wheel to fit in the frame..

wonder if it's old enough to be a 126 spaced rear, not 130, but you are putting a 130 wheel in anyhow.

1st things 1st:

A) Is the wheel that you are installing checked for proper dish?

2) Check the frame alignment w/ Sheldon Brown's method "Checking Alignment (Symmetry)/String Method"

III) Very thoroughly check each and every bond on the frameset, your clunky sound may spell doom.
Repairs on these bonded frames required specialized techniques and materials, the old source from "back when" is long gone.

I agree with fietsbob , it look like it make for 126 mm spacing . Try redishing the wheel and make the adjustment at the hub by removing spacers to get the 126 mm spacing to fit .

The first thing I do is try inserting the wheel backwards. Is the problem the same? That is a quick check on wheel dishing.

Your wheel seems to be off center a bit at both the brake bridge and the seat stay, so dishing is a strong possibility.

Are the seat stays/chain stays loose? The clunky sound is odd. Perhaps the glue joint was broken on one side by squeezing in a 130mm wheel.

I've been reading the bridge is a problem with a lot of these vitus frames, i already inspected all the frame bonds and it's ok, but i don't mind it at all since i'm really used to frontbrake arround 70% and 30% for rear.. i think if i don't stress it that much it won't break..

It's a 6speed freewheel on a campy record hub

I'll do the sheldon brown's method for alignment and ill post again.

Looking at the photos of the chainstays, it looks to me like the Driveside chainstay is bent, curved outwards going towards the dropout, in contrast to the Non-Driveside chainstay which looks like it's straight from the bottom bracket to the dropout.

Remove the rear wheel and measure the dropout width. Looks to me like someone tried cold setting the rear dropouts and one chainstay bent while the other didn't.
