The DC Bike Blogger

When I retire I hope to do some long-distance, self-supported bike touring. Until then, I’m just a guy who has been working in Washington, D.C. for over 30 years, and keeps one of my bikes in the basement parking garage of the building where I am employed by an undisclosed government entity. I use my lunch break each day to go for a bike ride and discover some of the eclectic sites and unusual events in and around the city. I'm not a professional writer or photographer. But I do take a few snapshots along the way, and then use my blog to post the photos and write about what I see, what I learn, and what I think about while I explore our nation's capital one ride at a time. There are currently 593 posts and thousands of photos on my blog, as well as additional pages with general information and advice. There is also an interactive map, with each destination marked with an icon that contains a link that will take you to the blog post providing information on that particular location on the map. Please feel free to visit the blog and let me know what you think.

Wanted to do something very similar for my city, but the more I thought about it, the more I was overwhelmed by the number of places I'd have to pinpoint as good cycling destinations. Been cycling for here for 3 years and still finding new places to ride to! Your blog and map have inspired me to get started regardless, thank you for sharing it here.

Wow, great blog. Thanks for putting the time and energy into it.
Until I was furloughed at the start of this thing, I spent a week a month in DC for work. Just a great biking town.
Never got the chance to do too much biking, tho, and was looking forward to getting some in when my work asked me to dip back into DC for a few days.
I thought, “Great! I’ll do a bunch of cycling and put a much needed infusion of cash into the coffers.”
Check into my hotel Thursday evening and subsequently come down sick with food poisoning wonk wonk.
Maybe next time they bring me back in for a consult or, hopefully, ongoing.
Will definitely be referring to your blog, either way.
