1pc crank problems, upgrade to 3pc or not ????
i have some 1 pc cranks, not sure of brand, but the tightening nut has been stripped as well as the thread on the arm. Can i get new nut or do i need a new crank? I hve seen some nice looking 3pc cranks, 4-Jeri tubular, but dont really know if there any god . Plus i would have to buy new sprcket and pedals as well, Tottaling bout £60, not bad but do i need 3pc, and are 4-Jeri good??

profile cranks are the best component you can put on a bmx bike. just get them you won't be sorry.
|
There should be no question about it. Three piece cranks are the only way to go if you are serious about riding. I would agree about the Profile cranks, I bent the spindle on some Redline cranks, but have had no problems with my Profile cranks.

4-Jeri? I've never even heard of that brand. But three-piece cranks that you can get for 60 pounds (about $115 US) are almost certainly going to be crap.
I'd recommend getting either Profile or Odyssey cranks, or a pair of Solid Hella Lights if you can find a pair. You'll also need to get new pedals, with a 9/16" spindle rather than the 1/2" spindle that cranks for one-piecers use. Your sprocket will probably work fine, but you'll need to get an adapter for it so that it will fit properly on the crankset's spindle. edit: I just did a Google search for 4-Jeri. Just what I expected. Generic crap. |
Thought they'd be crap for silly cheap prices. FSA ring any bells for any1, i really cant afford to spend much, skint 15 year old
|
I know a guy who uses FSA cranks. He hasn't had any probems that I can think of.

cut some lawns, sit some babies, sell some crack. (just kidding about the crack :) ) Save up for the good stuff man. I've had my profile cranks for almost 8 years, and i ride everything street, dirt, race. if you treat them good they'll never let you down.

Also check eBay. Profile cranks last forever and a day, so getting a used pair can give you a good value for less $$$. Just look at the pics to make sure they aren't rusted or in really bad shape.
Something like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...151097485&rd=1 Shipping may be a bit more overseas, but it isn't a 'new' item so you shouldn't have to pay import fees or anything. You likely might find even better prices if you shop around some. Do NOT get generic 3-piece cranks, they will only be a bigger headache, and most of all, WASTE OF MONEY, compared to your current 1-piece cranks which are driving you nuts. |

thanks BMXTRIX, i looked at those but dont understand because i thought there was only euro or standard crank "sizes". Whats the USA bit about and will it fit my Huffy (dont flame it its a light bike)

There is not standard or Euro.
There is American (USA), Euro, Spanish, and mid. Your bike is most likely an American (USA) bottom bracket. Don't sweat the confusion - it used to all just be 'bottom bracket' and every bmxer knew what you were talking about. |

same exact thing happened to my old 1pc. an old gary fisher one. RuBbIsH if i ever saw it. go 3pc. not neccesarily stronger, but i dunno, people seem hooked on em lately, easier to replace the parts. |
if you're looking for somthing cost effective.
the redline big block is the way to go, if you can find one. it's a one peice, but it's thicker and stronger than a stock one peice. but you will have to get a big block crank plate also because others will not fit. at about $50.00 U.S it would be well within your price range. i had one for 5 years with no problems |
who would pay 50 bucks for a 1 piece?

Indeed. That was a silly question.
