1998 GT Power Series 1.0 Question
 

Hi all. I own a Mint condition only ridden once Chrome 1998 GT Power Series 1.0 bike with many upgrades including 3-peice GT crank and a cool looking GT front sprocket. Does any one own one of these here? Particulary the 1998 model? It is 7075 Aluminum which the other years were 6065 or something like that.

Was the power series 1.0 the top of the line for that year or was there the 3.0 also?

I have only rode this bike once, right after I bought it. It looks awesome. Its been down in the basement since I bought it and I always looked at it, but never had the time or ambition to ride it.

It looks like it did the day I picked it up at the local shop!

I think I paid like 700-800 dollars for it back in 1998.

I have the same bike and it is awesome.:thumb: It is made of 7005 aluminum and basically the only difference between the 1.0 and the 3.0 is that the 3.0 has a 3 piece crank.

Yeah considering you bumped a 7 year old thread to say that you had a bike that is almost like the one he's talking about.

Ok, I am bumping my original thread 13 YEARS later!!! I was 23 years old when I posted this thread and now I am 36 years old and I look like I am 25-28 years old so I can still ride this bike around as I look good on it as I am skinny with a small built frame 5'10" 155-160lbs. Its now mid july 2015! I still have this bike and did not ride it until 2010 for a summer around some paved trails and then it sat for another 5 years until last month and now I am out riding this 1998 GT power series 1.0 (all aluminum, no paint) everyday. This bike looks brand new! I will never sell it. GT bikes that were built in USA not overseas from the late 90's and before are gaining in value over time. I am in the middle of deciding to order upgrade parts for it now like lighter aluminum forks and handlebars, matching aluminum GT stem and GT double bolt seat post. I have been riding it on paved and dirt trails and having a blast, a couple jumps here and there but I am older now so I don't need the thrill of breaking my leg. This bike is so fast. But then again I am 36 and I have full built leg muscles now so I can push it harder than when I was a kid at 19 years old when I bought it. Wow, I can't believe its been 17 years now since I went into the local bike shop and bought it customized brand new. Then came on here in 2002 asking questions about it and now here I am 13 years later...... riding it everyday, I have put over 100 miles on it and I am upgrading some of the parts right now, in the process.... I am going to get some pics up soon. My kids are 7 and 9 so they have interest in these bikes now which also rekindled my interests........ and no I am not giving my kids this bike, they can go get a used GT Mach One beginners bike to start off.

I am searching for a GT power series 3.0. In 2001 I got a paper route at 10 years old and I eventually saved up enough money to buy this bike with my own money. I am looking for another one just to have it and hold onto it.
