Well ive tried it, bike shop tried it, so i was wondering if anyone has a gryo on pitchforks, and how'd you get it on there, im clueless, i dont think it could be thie bike, btw---s and m holmes, slan bars, redneck stem, aheadset-pitchfork,,....should i change the set up completly?

The use of gyros and the compatability of them is determined on the headset. You may need to swap that out.

awwwwww.............so i see, ill try that one out, bike owner said it was the fork, but iono, ive could of sworn ive seen gryos' on pitch forks:confused:

they only seem to know high end stuff like lycra shorts and road bikes.

bmx is such an easy thing to work on but most can't get it right.
i think it has to do w/ them not respecting "the little bikes"

now to your problem.

there are two kinds of head tube sizes.

old school ~ one inch
new school ~ inch and an eight, also called oversize because it is larger than the old school one inch.

therefore, you need to have the correct size gyro. it sounds like you may have a new school size headset and an old school gyro.

that won't work. but it's not the forks fault. the bike shop guy is a tard.

I would suggest learning how to work on your bike yourself so you don't have to deal w/ those guys.

the gyro is made up of three main parts.

the first part goes under your top headset cup (unless they've made major changes to them)

the next part is the actuall gyro thing that spins.

then the top gyro part goes on next. some stems have those tabs built into them.

if you give us more info as to what size parts you have, someone can help you out more...

thanks alot, i have 1 1/8" head =tube, so ill check it out, and the bike owner does mostly race stuff for bmx, not much in the freestyle...figures.lol

well, now the bike shop says you cant put a gryo on an s & m holmes period. So um.....is this true?

i'd kick the bike shop guy in the jimmy.

without looking at your exact frame I can't tell you for sure.

but you can put a gyro on just about any frame so I would doubt him.

I'll do my best to help you install it.

first, make sure your gyro is the correct size.
if your frame is inch and an 1/8 make sure the gyro is too.

then look at the three main parts of the gyro.

you should have one part that spins. it is usually chrome in color, yours may not be.
put that part aside for now.

now you should have two other main parts. (leave the cables alone for now)

look at the two parts you have left, one should be almost flat with a hole in the center and two smaller holes on each end.

the other should look simallar but should not be flat.

that is the bottom part and needs to go on your bike first.

take your stem off and set it aside. you can leave your handlebars on the stem.

your headset is going to come apart and my suggestion is you take your time and set ALL the parts on a rag or someplace in the same order they come off your bike.

that way you can put it back together without having to get the bike shop guys help. make sure you keep the bearings facing the same direction. if you put them in upside down, you'll ruin them.


now.
your forks should be out of the frame and all the bearing parts laid out in a nice line on a rag.
you need to remove the top cup from your head tube.
get a hammer and something long and hard (an old seatpost works great)
from the bottom side of your frame, slide the long thing into the head tube and set it against the bottom of the top cup.

pound that sucker out.

now grab the lower gyro piece (the one that is not flat) and put it over your headtube. it should only fit one way so it should be easy.
now put the cup back in by pounding on it.

I SUGGEST YOU USE A PIECE OF WOOD ON TOP OF THE CUP SO YOU DON'T DAMAGE IT.

the cup will hold the bottom gyro piece inplace.

now put your forks back in and all the bearings.

put the center gyro piece on next

if you have any spacers under your stem, put them on.

now put the top gyro piece on and put your stem back on and tighten it all down.

throw the cables on and have fun...

I am not sure EXACTLY about where the top gyro piece goes on and oversized frame. you may have to mess w/ it a bit or get advise from someone else (but not the bike shop guy)

lol, i have yet to purchase the right gryo, i have, but none has fit, but i think those intructions will help me out alot. im goin to go buy another tomarrow and check it out...the reason the bike shop owner said it couldtn fit, is casue the headset tube is to short, not long enough for one.....:confused:

A headset press can be made for uner $5. Get a piece of threaded rod, some long nuts a few washers and a couple of blocks of wood. Drill joles in the blocks for the rod, place a block on the lower cup, the rod through the head tube, place the top cup on the headtube, with the lower gyro piece, grab a wrench and start turning the nut. It works alot better than pounding on it.
Also the upeer and lower cables are fully adjustable. This allows any slack to be taken out of the cables. The length of the bikes headtube should not have any effect on setting one up. Oh and another thing. I reccomend the SST Oryg gyro. They also make three different lenghts of upper cables if that is the issue. If my memory s correct try the hardcore uppers they are shorter in length.

I've just had so many people in shops look down or dis me because i'm on a 20 inch.

i've had them tell me not to bring my bike into the shop.
uh, isn't it a bike shop? i need to talk to a mech.

now that i ride a mountain bike i don't get that same attitude.

i road bmx/freestyle from '82 until '96

so my bad shop stories are from years back.

bmx wasn't as popular as it is today, I think that had alot to do w/ the lack of respect. image a 22 year old guy walking in to your shop w/ some beat up bmx.

you, being an inteligent being, would probably accomidate the person.

Buy an FSA PIG headset. They are durable, and compatable with the SST, and ODYSSEY gyro's. The fork has nothing to do with the compatability of a gyro. Also, make sure you are using a 1-1/8 gyro.
