Haro Zippo or Redline Two Five?
 

I'm getting a used BMX just to kick around , nothing crazy. A little flatland here, a little street there. I found 2 on the LetGo app in my price range that I like. One is a 1998 Haro Zippo, the other is a 1989 Redline Two-Five. I must admit i'm a sucker for a twin top tube BMX so i'm leaning towards the Zippo but my gut is telling me the Redline is a better bike. I'f i'm not mistaken they are both trimoloy frames. What say you? Discuss.....

They are both good bikes, but the Redline has way more collectible / re-sale value. People go crazy for stuff in the 80's! The only drawback is it was a slightly lower model and has a trimoly frame.

I've never ridden a Zippo but they are from the super heavy tank phase of BMX so I suspect they might be a little hefty. But there's quite a few people who do like them

Nice clean looking bike, does it ride well?

Only took it for a quick spin. Feels pretty good. it's been a while since i've ridden a BMX so it will take some getting used to..... I ripped all the brake cables off since they were all pretty crusty. I'm waiting for new cables from Amazon. I'm also getting a new seat as this one is really torn up. Also going to get 2000 Zippo forks on ebay with the 990 bosses. I've forgotten how terrible BMX brakes were. I may just rip off the Oryg entirely and run a long cable for the rear so I can still spin the bars (at least once), not sure yet.

The 1999 haro zippo had to go. As much as I liked it, the 20" top tube and frame geometry made for an uncomfortable ride. So out with the old and in with the older. I just picked up a true old school bmx survivor. A 1989 Redline Two-Five (RL25). It's longer 21" top tube and old school geometry make for a comfortable ride for me at 5'11". Not to mention it's just so damn pretty.

I think you made the right choice, and I'm glad you were still able to get the RL25 as bike like that don't last 5 mins where I live. Personally I find mid school just too bulky and heavy, and new school BMX are good for certain tricks but are terrible riding/cruising bikes. Old School for me has the best of both worlds, they cruise nice and are light enough to still do tricks on.

Yeah weight wasn't even something I was considering but the RL is insanely lighter than the Zippo was.

Man,...the 1989 Redline Two-Five (RL25) is definitely a fantastic looking bike. I think you made the right choice. :thumb:
