Z-Rims 'age'
Looking at the z-rims on my vintage redline. The dates both end in 'C'. ( 4-11-c and 4-12-c). Anyone know what the year would be? They are black and stamped z-rims.
Thanks. |
Wow, hadn't thought about Z Rims in a long long time. Those are the ones with the circular hole between spoke nipples that showed the metallic rim tape, yeah?
If the wheels I am thinking of I recall them being around in the early to mid 80's. Typically hard anno black with either silver or gold tape showing through. I had issues with them personally in that they simply weren't as strong as the comparable Araya and bent/warped a set or two. |
Juan,
The set of Z-rims here are the plastic ones that laced into a wheel and would deform on landings and then spring back into roundness and true. I'll try to post a picture later. Smiles, MH |

Think they would both be late 1984 rims.

These were aluminum rims created by Mongoose that used a special Mylar strip to keep the tube in. Really designed to race.
Z rims are the original plastic rim which was put out by ACS, maker of the Tuff wheels |

Mongoose Pro Class rims are what you are describing it sounds like

I can recall a type of mag (not rim) that were designed to be put into a freezer to bring them back into true but can't recall if it was the same group. |
