R.I.P Winklemann

i got an e-mail from a guy named Tyler, and he told me that Colin Winklemann commited suicide yesterday. thats really sad. alot of people looked up to him. and he will be missed. R.I.P.

FireTeamCharlie 08-12-05 05:51 PM

He did? Thats sucks. He's on the front page of the DK website. www.dkbicycles.com

kwhord 08-12-05 06:40 PM

damn.

hypersnazz 08-12-05 09:13 PM

Yeah, just heard about it from a buddy of mine. :(

Brian 08-13-05 12:19 AM

Can't have any sympathy for that cowardly act. If it makes me a meanie, so be it.

FireTeamCharlie 08-13-05 01:57 AM

When I think of it I actually do agree with ex in a way. Suicide is for cowards, who can't face the real world. But I have the utmost respect for the mans BMX skills, I feel confilicted, but ex is right.

Brian 08-13-05 02:18 AM

Hardly a role model.

FireTeamCharlie 08-13-05 07:24 AM

I wonder why he killed himself. The man seemed like he was having a good career. Maybe someone who knows about why Colin Winkelmann did commit suicide, and how he did could share some insight I really wanna know.

redlinerider 08-13-05 10:56 PM

okay i must say that Colin was a great loss to the sport, and i do agree that suicide is a terrible resort, however, there may have been situations none on this forum knows about, so think about that possibility before you calll anyone a coward( much respect expatriate). well maybe i have made myy point which is that sure it sux but cant jufge him cuz of it( yes i was an adoring fan but it would be the same situation if ryan nyquist hurt himself( i dislike nyquist). anyway
Peace

Brian 08-13-05 11:27 PM

He didn't hurt himself. If it's true, he's killed himself. That's a pretty cowardly act. I've endured some pretty hard times in my life, and I'm still here. Guess I'm not a quitter like others are. But for someone that's considered a role model for kids and young adults, I can't think of a worse act to commit.

That's true, but it doesn't mean he wasn't a talented rider people looked up to, or that he won't be missed. Ski instructor friend of mine killed himself nearly 2 years ago, we were all a close group at that ski school and it sucked, it affected all of us, but none of us were willing to just write Kevski off. Despair twists perception, it's not as simple as waking up one morning and just going, "Welp, think I'm gonna off myself today. Better get started working up some angsty adjectives for my note."

Brian 08-13-05 11:52 PM

No argument there about his bike handling skills, nor was any disrespect (for you, disrespeck, I liked the old avatar better) meant. But I still see it as a selfish and cowardly act. Sucks that you lost a friend too.

When my ex wife stopped working and took up Pokemon with my son, I had more than enough Pikachu. She was about 30 at the time.

is this really true...thats sad, and it sucks Colin Winkleman was an amazing rider....

baktrailbiker91 08-14-05 01:23 PM

Colin winklemann was an amazing rider, r.i.p, but i agree with expatriate. Sucide is a cowerdly act. Theres people who fight for their lives, even through the pain, but then theres peole who jus give up.

I used to think suicide was dumb as well, Untill my BEST FRIEND of more than 10 years did this! It's gut wrenching! you don't know the feeling untill it hits home! I'm also very sad about colin, I'm glad i had the chances to ride with him, I'm glad i seen him all over the U.S at all the tripple crowns, and it was always amazing to hear him say whats up Lee! He started the conversations, He listen to the little kids at the vans comps, gave out autographs like crazy! If a kid said do a back flip he did it! And thats the most annoying thing at comps. I'm pretty sure i know why he did what he did! I'm not opening my mouth on the net! But I had a deep conversation at woodward with him! He seemed lost or like he wasn't all the way down to earth! Not in a mean way or not listing, somethin else was there! Iv studied this and learned a lot about suicide. When a human commits this act, it's not there fault. no one person in the right mind takes there life! it's a mental problem. and I'm not saying that it's a bad mental problem. He couldn't help it! It sucks yea that he was so well know and kids know about this now! This is clearly not a normal brains fault! Colin will always be loved, missed and rembered in my heart!

and if any of you have this little idean in the back of your head, tell somebody! and tell them that you are serrious! The mind is very powerful and can lead you to think anything! please get help if you do have problems! peace everybody! love you Colin

Lee, you made my head hurt until that last part. I'll show a bit of respect and leave it at that.

yup. theres no better way to say it.

ridz 09-10-05 06:48 PM

Basicly your all dum *******s and disrepectful fuks in my opinion for calling colin a coward... he was seriously hurt in an acident and had to learn how to walk again so you can all blow me.......... he was one of the greatest riders ever and went threw so much and he did what he thought was best so fuk you and fuk anyone who ever says **** about him

zx108 09-10-05 08:33 PM

wow, i guess your a real fan.

someone in my family couldnt get their hand to their mouth to feed themselves but they are still here. AND needed to go to therapy to be able to walk correctly.

i dont think there was any disrespect, suicide is frowned upon.

trailsirder234 09-10-05 11:08 PM

it had nothing to do with the bike accident, and don't worry about the real reason, just watch intuition, system cycle, and every other video that contain clips of him and remember his shredding days

Sounds like you had a serious crush on the guy to be so defensive. Maybe he can be an example to you.

JMC 09-11-05 05:00 AM

man. i had so much respect for his riding. when my uncle commited suicide earlier this year, i eventually came to the conclusion that even though people may call it cowardly or whatever, the problems were real to him, and in this case Colin Winklemann. their problems were real for them, so who are we to judge?
