Hooked on Phonics 101

ok....gezz.....i am SICK of getting on here every night and asking questions about biking and bike parts and just talking about stuff...and EVERYtime..there is someone that says something about my spelling or somebody else's. Please, i mean we arn't idiots(nor are we graduates from Harvard), but i am just really tired of people correcting each other. Just type. whatever comes out comes out...gezz why do we have to be corrected about every little thing....we get corrected enough at school and work...that;s enough...JUST STOP..i'm tired of it......

No. Unless you plan on riding your BMX to work at the landfill when you grow up, you may want to take the time to learn a few things, grammar being one of them. If you were applying for a job, or even just asking grandma for some cash, wouldn't you take the time to compose your thoughts, and do your best to spell correctly? In the real world, you will be judged on how well you communicate. Yes, I do make comments about how some of you spell and type. But I have yet to call anyone an idiot for that reason alone. Well, maybe FTC, but he is an idiot. If it's any consolation, I have 4 kids that have to put up with the same thing, but far more often than you guys.

Don't take it as a personal attack, but rather as constructive criticism.

I appreciate grammer and spelling. But not to the point of busting an anyone about it. But the whole internet shorthand thing is quite annoying. But people spell wrong all the time. Sometimes just because it's easier than spell checking. But I think alot of people don't proof thier post before they submit it.

Darin, as one of the older members here, I'm sure you can appreciate how annoying it is to try and read some of this stuff. And it's the same kids that ask a question that's already been asked 10 times in the last month. Like, "Which bike to get?", or "How do I paint my frame?". It gets old fast.

The guidelines state
"Please do your best when it comes to grammar, punctuation and spelling. Excessive use of "AOL'ese" and "hAx0r" talk can be very disruptive so please keep it to a minimum."
You want to look like a idiot - that's fine but the BMX section has been looked at as a bunch of stupid kids for a LONG TIME and continuing to communicate with poorly spelled moronic gibberish and AOL'ese is never going to gain you any respect from the other members here.

This forum is visited by THOUSANDS of people a day. Some are members, MOST of them are guests who are looking for someplace where they can ask a question and get an intelligent response. "I wud git dat b4 u 4get or ur gunna be srry thx" Is NOT an intelligent looking response no matter how correct the information (once translated) is.

You want others to respect your opinions? Type them so anyone can read them not just "ur homies" I don't expect perfect spelling and grammar. Hell half the time I ignore people who can't capitalize (that irks me too).

It's either that or you can continue to be the equivalent of the mentally handicapped kid that the forums hides in the basement when company comes over.
(My apologies for the metaphor. This was unfortunately
quite common back in the 1950's and earlier and was the best way of expressing the situation)

"Almost"? Which school isn't going to require that you write in proper English? And don't try to be funny and mention some foreign school.

*Disclaimer* If you post in this thread, you'll be wanting to spell-check twice, as this is a ruthless bunch.

If you type like a moron, I'm going to treat you like one. Legible typing is something people do as a courtesy to others, not to show off how great they are. Being able to read some of these posts and actually understand what the person typing is trying to say is a rare luxury in many cases. I spend about 2 seconds skimming each post, if I can't grok it in that amount of time, f*ck it, I'm moving on.

There you go. And remember, this man knows a lot about BMX, so you'll want to be on his good side if you have any questions.
