Seriously now, even though DMC and Moliterno raced, putting them in a thread about old-school racers does them absolutely no justice.

And Stompin' Stu was a G. I remember this one time that me and Perry Kramer were doing meth in my backyard, and Stu comes by with DMC. Well, DMC wasn't down with the meth, so he decided to do a Vanderroll off my roof and into the pool instead. Then he told us that "winners don't do drugs." And Stu just nodded and said "damn straight." PK immediately dropped his pipe, and Stu, sure enough, stomped right on it. Then he did the same to mine. True story.

My brother stole a Redline Carrera and 600A when he worked for Redline. True story.

It's not stealing, it's "product testing".

Yeah, but then a subcontractor in the testing industry decided he needed to put them through their paces as well.

It all started in Southern California, ok? Mongoose, JAG, Redline, SE Racing, all within a 1/2 drive of each other. The Chinese made our take away food, not bikes. Pot was still the drug of choice, as you could roll a joint on a LP sleeve. Coke got big with the invention of the CD as the jewel case was simply too small for joint rolling. Many a fool tried to put their Z rims in the freezer. Mr. T coined the phrase "I pity the fool" and BMX was off to a good start. Anyone want to take it from there?

Yes, at this point, the World Wrestling Federation started to get big again when Andy Kaufman started fighting women, and Jerry Lawler proceeded to break his neck, leading to fights on Letterman and, eventually, Andy's mortal bout with cancer.

And some punk came up with the stupid idea of a TV channel that played nothing but music videos. That's how you know if you're old, you can remember when MTV played videos. You were nothin' if you didn't have V bars and California Lite pads. Preferably checkered. The Uni seat was invented. Uni, as in one piece seat/seatpost. Not to be confused with the Uni Fork, as in universally evil.

What about that line of suspension BMX bikes...when did they come to present?
Were they a hit?

The only BMX bikes that I can think of were some late '90s Spooky frames and that stupid Mongoose frame with the air/oil shock.

And, no, they weren't a hit, just like how multiple gears wasn't a hit. Why? Because they're ******** for BMX.

How about that little Haro plastic 2 finger brake lever? The one that mounted on the vertical part of your bar and snapped when you tried to make a panic stop...

Coaster brakes. ODI Mushroom grips. Those big jobs that looked like cobras on your bars.

Did anyone ever have one of those plastic things that covered your chain so your pants didn't get dirty?

I have in my possession right now, an original "UFF-DA" sticker, complete with the Viking head. It's even printed in red and blue on rainbow tape. My new Haro is simply not worthy of it.

Checkered Vans were mentioned in a previous thread, but are worth mentioning again. Op cord shorts, tube socks, and a Lightning Bolt shirt - the uniform was complete.

I have in my possession a couple of early Fox stickers and when I eventually get a new bike, it won't be worthy either. Actually, I have some early Lightning Bolt stickers as well, Maybe I could send 'em to ya to put on your t-shirt....if you still have it! And what about Mr SE Racing himself.....Scot B, he'd have to rate a mention as one of the greats, would he not???

Yes, stock bikes require reflectors and a chainguard to be sold in the US. It's also illegal to sell frames without a way of mounting brakes (which is why the Edwin frame has a hole cut out for mounting a caliper and why most fixie frames do the same). And riding brakeless is illegal, for the obvious reasons.

No, not a chain guard. This was a piece of plastic corrugated tubing, split down the middle. It went ON the chain, and was supposed to keep grease off your clothes. They were popular for about 4 days. Shamefully, I had a blue one. You can still buy it at Radio Shack and Pep Boys, it's for covering up wires.

Checkered Vans are cool again, I'd wear 'em if it wasn't for my feet being freakishly wide.

There are lots of odd bicycle laws, over here there's one that says if a bicycle has a seat height of 25" or less, it only requires one brake. Maybe this explains the fashion for slammed seats and 2" seatposts.
