i was wondering if some of you could help me out. i have come across a couple bikes that have their sprockets and chain on the left side. my brain is just too fried to try and rationalize how that would work. i know it's not rocket science, but it would be a lot easier for those of you with experience to just fill me in.

1) is the rear hub special or can you flip them around?

2) how about the BB and cranks...can the cranks just be mounted on the opposite sides?

3) what about LH threads vs RH threads of BB and/or pedals...does this all come into play as well?

thanks!

nevermind guys...i think i found my answers. i tried to delete this but couldn't.

1) Yes, the engagement devices are opposite the direction of those on a RSD hub.
2) Yes, but your pedals may thread out.
3) No, because you either buy LHD-specific cranks (with the boss for the sprocket bolt on the left arm) or cransk that work either way (with bosses on both arms).

"Consequences of a LEFT drive train"

Stains on left leg.

That and getting the leg pantleg chewed up.

I just get the impression that it would feel funny pedaling it. I "know" it wouldn't, but some part of me says that you'd feel it. Must be the blonde part.

Obviously.

It feels no different.
I'm quite glad I set up my new ride with LSD, as I grind right most of the time anyways.

Aside from maybe the way one grinds, what is the point of the setup? I saw one the other day and wondered myself.

CMcMahon 02-03-06 07:09 PM

That is the point.
