Chainstay Guard

I think its the Premium 2005 frame that comes with an extra piece of metal welded to the chainstay to protect it during grinds. Does this actually help out alot? Could I weld a piece of Sheetmetal there, or do I need thicker metal? Can you weld through paint or do you need to sand it first?

yea, it helps a lot. i have that frame and there are no dents at all in the chainstays.

I wouldnt go welding or brazing anything onto your frame... (it might void the warranty, and look really bad)

But yes, the Premium has some sort of extra metal or gaurd thing on it...

premiumbmx2005 04-30-06 09:22 AM

it looks cool too, haha.

the only thing is is that it doesnt protect the whole entire chainstay...it has a 2-3 inch gap between the dropout and the beginning of the guard.

Yes, but look at your freinds bikes that run pegs, you usually mess up the part closer to the bb

Well I wont be the one welding, it would either be my dad (who used to weld the beams together on buildings - ex iron worker) or I'd have the metal fabrication shop in my schools (I go to a vocational high school) weld it. The of course I'd paint it or have my dads friend poweder coat it.

haha, i can just look at my haros chainstay. but there is that odd mess up that gets into the unprotected area once in a while...no problem though

better to have the ocassional hit on your chain stay instead of all of them hiting it.

not to mention I'd make it cover a good portion of my left chainstay.

I wouldnt have anyone that is learning to weld, weld on your frame.

Maybe let your Dad do it, since he knows what hes doing...

But it will probly void any sort of warranty that you have from Haro, and i beleive that your entire complete has a 1 year warranty, and the frame has a lifetime warranty, or at least thats how mine is set up...)
