all-around frame for an old guy
Hey Gang,
So I should get a 6-pack? ;) I'm an old-skool flatlander (as in used to ride with the plywood hoods at rockville bmx, have hung out with Matt Hoffman and Dennis McCoy at AFA contests, etc.) looking to get back into the sport after a long absence. I used to be a die-hard haro fan (had nothing but masters), but there is some much diversity in frames now, I'm a bit lost. I'm looking for a good all-around bike, something that I can use for park, street and flat. Can anyone give me some suggestions on good all-around frames (or complete bikes)? I'm 5'9", so a recommended size would be good too. I here that Standard is run by Moliterno, who was the man back in the 80s, so that is one of my top choices right now, but which model? Thanks! |
I would think to do some flat you'd want a steep head angle, and a short top tube, so whichever of the Standards that has those should be nice.
|
sunday make pretty much the techest frame out. get a short one and you'll be good to go.

Answer: Cosmetics and weight whoring |
i would rather a nice color too. im not going to buy a disgusting colored frame just to repaint it

You can get a ton of frames to fit your needs. I rode back when you did and still do now. And frame with a 74.5 head tube and a shorter top tube will work. You have a ton to pick from. I'd look into a McNeil Heaton II with it's 20' TT it should be just what you want. Then agian, Standard will custom make a frame with your geo for about 75$ more. I was riding a custom FBM Capone with a 20.8tt so, they wil make them for you as well. Want to go full custom, call Solid. www.solidbmx.com/

Ahem, it's 20.1TT on the heaton II ;).
I would know :p. |

It's not the best, but it's not bad.

Oh well, still got pretty short chainstays.
Plus I have it weighing in at around 26lbs, and it'll be even lighter with my cranks. |

the 06 sundays were on sale. entire frame heat treated post welding. headtube and bb machined post welding. hollow drops. angled brake mounts.[/sales pitch]
|
I dont see the big deal with angled brake mounts, my General Lee even had them.
And Mike Hoder has the ugliest bike. |
Thanks for the input guys! I see that the Heaton II is on sale at albes right now. Not bad.
What is your take on the DK Signal? Seems like a good inexpensive way to get back into the sport. I know the components aren't that great, but do you think the frame is worth keeping and upgrading? |
DK signal frame isnt all that great, it's not full chromo.
If you want to see a fully built Heaton II I have one in the link in my signature. |

|
Thanks for the input guys! I just ordered a heaton II frame. Now to do some more shopping for components. :)
|
They're kinda heavy, but not bad frames, really short chainstays which is nice.
What color did you get, if it's the burgundy they dont look anything like the website shows. More like this: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...rathedstay.jpg |
You beat that thing up pretty nice.
|
Yeah I got the burgandy. Was thinking about the yellow, but decided a darker color would be cool.
