wethepeople 01-15-07 08:00 PM

Yes, you can cut the post.

minichamp31 01-15-07 08:01 PM

Punx 01-15-07 08:17 PM

Cut post and bars.

Switch to magnizum pedals over aluminum(in some cases)

Change tires...odd as that sounds a tire like a Tioga Comp III is about 1/3 less weight than a Primo Wall for example.

Get a lighter stem

Cut axels flush with bolts.

Fill your tires with helium...
Pray you don't try the last one.

Don;t grind your post. Cut it with a hack saw.

ok

MadMan2k 01-15-07 08:48 PM

Yeah, cut it just enough so the clamp has room to grab it, and slam the seat.

FuzzyRyder 01-16-07 05:32 PM

Yeah I don't really see any problems with advice he has given at all really. he may anoy some of you but he's a memeber of the forum just trying to give some advice. For the most part he isn't really very unreasonable about things.

BMX1992 01-16-07 05:32 PM

i used a pipe cutter to cut mine, if you got one, they do a nice job making the end even. how would you cut the axle to make the threads even?

FuzzyRyder 01-16-07 05:34 PM

Put a nut on the axel where you want to cut it off, and cut it with a hack saw against the nut.

premiumbmx2005 01-16-07 05:35 PM

or a dremmel

BMX1992 01-16-07 05:37 PM

Oh, ok thanks.

How much axle can be left on each side, at the least? Just right up to the axle nut?

That is the worst way to cut an axle; it's almost never even, takes forever, and it won't be chamfered.

Mark the length you want to cut it a piece of tape, cut it with a Dremel (or similar tool), and then file the corners down to an angle.

FuzzyRyder 01-16-07 05:41 PM

Thats how I, and most of the others I ride with do it, and it has turned out fine for all of us...I don't see how it could not come out even... there is a steal nut there to cut against as a guide.

Yes up to the nut.

use a nut as a guide over tape. but yea use a power tool over a hacksaw. that takes forever.

try a hacksaw on 41thermal that would be fun.

BMX1992 01-16-07 05:47 PM

How much lighter will it make the bike? How much wieght will that take off for all 4 axles?
