need some help

I am hoping you guys can help me out. What I am looking for is a good bike for bashing around with my son, who is now getting into bmx and jumping. The last 20" bike I owned was a Haro Sport, back in the days of Brian Blyther and Dennis Wilkerson. My concern is that I am 6'4" tall and am tipping the scales at about 240lbs. What bikes are out there that I won't dwarf? Also I live in an area that only has one bike shop and they seem to be road bike snobs, so any online stores that you guys could recomend? Thanks in advance.

It really depends on how much you are willing to spend. No crappy complete is really going to stay in one piece with your size and weight, unless you magically transform into Mike Aitken (one of the smoothest riders there is). You need a nice complete if you want to hold onto your bike for a while.

Eh, that's competely necessary. Any decent fame with a 21-21.25" toptube would be good for him.

I looked at the duece duece last night. I think I need to find a decent bike shop and go try a couple different size frames and see what works for me. Thanks for all the info guys.

the duece duece is way too long for anybody. if i were you i would go with a frame something around 21-21.5. the premium josh harrington frame is pretty long and is really nice.

A steel cruiser would be best, unless you're dead set on thrashing a 20" instead.

I talked to the guy at our local bike shop and he said he could get a Redline mx24. Any thoughts on that bike?

I've rode a redline mx20, it was ok. You know that is for racing though right. Also how much would it be?

$250. I am a bit leery to get a race bike though, I don't plan on racing just jumping curbs with my son.

those have reallly skinny tires like a bit bigger then road bikes and components are weaker but lighter. If your looking for a 24in maybe a Haro Backtrail X24

Don't get a race bike... you will most likely destroy it, even doing simple things with your size and weight in mind. Your best bet would be a mailorder.

I'd rather not suggest a cruiser.

I think the bactrail x24 looks like the one for me. The forks look a bit weak, but I guess I could replace them if I tweak them. Thanks for all the input on this.

Unless you plan on running into stuff, the forks are plenty strong. They're bigger tubing than what used to be standard on MTBs, and they're full chromoly.
