Keys to having a wonderful time on your bikeforums visit:
NEW MEMBERS READ THIS BEFORE POSTING ANYTHING OR YOU WILL BE PUNISHED BY CAPSLOCK AND BANNSHIP.
1. Use proper grammar. And don't "tYp3 LiK3 DiS!?"
Acceptable: Hey guys i'm new to bikeforums!
Not: 3Y yO wazzZuP D00dzs i nEW 2 dIZ JoInT! LoLZZ!
Acceptable: hey guys im new to bikeforums
Not: HEY GUYS IM NEW 2 BIKEFOURMS!
2. Be patient waiting for answers.
Or we'll get annoyed and flame you like none other.
3. Search the forum before you make a thread. Most likely it's allready been covered.
For example: if you are looking for a good bike to buy..it's probly a DK Six Pack of Fit Flow. So save yourself the typing and just go look those up.
4. Be respectful to your O.G members / mods. Or else you'll get the ban stick up yer butt.
If you talk ****, start **** or act stupid Expat or MadMan will ban you and your whole family from our little haven on the web. We've been here longer then you respect us. Punk.
5. Don't ask for our opinions then tell us we're wrong.
What's the point anyways? Especially when we are probly right and you're not.
6. If you want to show us your beater of a bike put it in the proper stickied bike check thread.
Unless you have a Ti Grim Reaper or you think you have the most dialed bike to ever be seen on bikeforums then you have no excuse to make your own thread. Use the one that's been stickied and everyone else does. You're no better then us especailly when you're going to throw up some dope pics of you Mongoose in a sewer or next to your dad's '88 Toyota Tercel with the fresh paint on the non-matching bumber.
7. Don't dig up old threads. Go dig a hole and build some trails.
There is a reason they died and people stoped posting in them. So unless you have a really good reason...don't.
8. Don't make yourself an O.G icon. Cause you probly aren't.
We'll let you know if you're worthy.
9. Don't make 10 threads of the same subject. Like follow up threads because the other one died.
We'll hate you for life.
10. Watch this video!
I'll put up more when i can think of it. Let me know if you all can think of anything i missed. I made this because i was bored and the other newbie threads suck.

This is great! I just saw a mod hack for translating l33t, it would be amusing to have E/TFG/B or MadMan add it, although I don't think they could do it just for this forum.
Great job, KinetikBiker

I read all of it. Kinetik, you must have really been bored... or you must really have no life... or both.

measure twice, cut once...
if it's in 2 posts, it's still under the 10 mentioned in "rule-9"

But you know, the newcomers STILL don't read the stickies, so a double sticky reminding them to 'read this' wouldn't hurt

What if there was a way that the 'newbies' could get a PM when they joined with a link to this thread or any other thread that has some guidlines and rules...?
And i think from now on whenever a thread has been posted that is stupid and 'newbie'ish we should just post nothing but links to this thread or the other one.

This is the best thread I have read in BMX. Too bad rule #1 is not in use. Widespread throughout. I wish I could read half of them. If I have to look at some word as if it was a foreign language, then I am not going to give you the time of day.

They're some good rules. Most of them are common-sense though that some people don't have.

So who is with me for having a link to this thread automatically PMed to new members?
And if that happens all the posts except the first should be deleted so they can read the important stuff.

I think it would be most useful. Perhaps we could ask E/TFG/B about the feasibility of sending a PM. I don't know if it could be accomplished easily, and I think Joe Gardner has said somewhere that he does not like to have 'moderator queues'. But for a forum like this, that might not be such a bad idea. Brian will probably weigh in to let us know.
But, the great thing about your post is that it was written by someone (but who is not a moderator) who posts on a regular basis here, and that means a lot. I like the title too

It's not very feasible. Not all new members who register here intend on posting, let alone viewing, the BMX section - by far.
To know which ones were going to post here, we'd have to let them make at least one post or thread, and I don't really think we can make a script to do that effectively. Think about it, if it automatically sent the PM to members who made their first post here, what about if they made a post somewhere else first, and their post count was over 1? We'd have to do it manually, and that's a lot less welcoming than a friendly (or not so friendly, even, but personal) reminder to type properly, search, etc.
Most members who will cause trouble will be too impatient to read anything before they post. That includes stickies, rules, other posts, using the search function (most of the time), or probably even PM's. That's the problem with stickying this thread; there's already one with a similar title up there, with slightly different information, and I doubt most of them would read both. I don't, when I sign up to a new forum, but I've been on various forums for over 5 years and don't type like an idiot anywhere.

In other words, sorry Kinetik. Also, is it possible to make this thread (or the actual guidelines) stick out from the other threads so noobs actually notice it when they sign up?
