Old frame weight

I don't have access to a scale and I wanted to know how much an old frame weighs. My brother has an S&M black Sabbath frame that he wants to build a bike with. It has been in his bedroom for about 10 years. Where can I find out the weight. Also, will new bmx parts work with that frame or have they changed too much?

KinetikBiker 04-11-07 07:39 AM

Put up some pictures.

I don't know the weight off the top of my head, but i'm sure you could e-mail S&M for specs and such.

do you have a bathroom scale?
if you do, use it.
hold the frame and step on the scale...remember the weight (or write it down)
put the frame down and weigh yourself...record this weight.
subtract your weight from the weight of you & frame & that's how much the frame weighs

or bring it to a bike shop

Who cares what it weighs? It's probably around 8lb though. Build it up for a nice semi-old school tank to ride street with.

S&M had/has the best names ever for their frames.

Yeah, just build it up and play around with it. You not going to break that thing unless you are the sketchiest man on Earth.

i dont think he's the kid down the block from me.

FitRider 921 04-11-07 01:40 PM

kinetik?

mude 04-11-07 01:41 PM

nah, its the kid with the take that it's the bike check thread

FitRider 921 04-11-07 01:42 PM

the One True Ave is starting to look good...

wethepeople 04-11-07 02:09 PM

It's always looked good.

FitRider 921 04-11-07 02:20 PM

I know. But I'm starting to hate being small. Not too many companys make 20.2/20.25 toptubes.

mude 04-11-07 02:21 PM

i ride a 20 and probably wont go up for a while

MadMan2k 04-11-07 02:21 PM

Just get the Edwin. You know you want to run brakeless, and it comes in that size. :p

FitRider 921 04-11-07 02:21 PM

If I ride a 20 I usually slam my legs into the bars.

EDIT: Madman, I know. I've been considering it. If only I had that kind of coinage and my parents were oblivious to the fact of me riding.

mude 04-11-07 02:22 PM

you dont ride right.

FitRider 921 04-11-07 02:23 PM

Possibly... or I'm just not used to a toptube that small. Or, the mini trail stem on my friend's bike doesn't have enough reach.

callumrides 04-13-07 07:07 AM

fly mosca. thats what you really want.

Everyone has a Fly around here. Plus...i just don't like them. Especially that weird wishbone thing they have going on by the bb/downtube.

I like all the Take frames. And i only know like one person that has one around here.

CMcMahon 04-13-07 01:13 PM

The first-generation Sabbath was around 7 pounds, and the second (post-2001) was about 6-1/4 pounds.

FitRider 921 04-13-07 01:20 PM

I like the Fly Mosca, but two of my friends have it and I don't want them to think that I am copying them... which I know they will think.

In my opinion i would go for a Sunday.I got 1 recently
A 21" toptube with a 13.75" rear end and it is a dream to ride.
Obviously your choice of frame depends on what terrain you plan to ride. For me personally its Street,Street,Street.

Next time you go out riding with some friends, ride each others bikes for a bit of variation. It is to easy to get used to your own bike and be content with it.
Before i got my Sunday i was real happy riding a Gusset Streaker, 20.5" top tube with a 14.25" rear end,
Now i have my Sunday frame i get more pop,can manual better and the overall feel of the bike is so much more stable.
I think i will stick with 21" Toptubes.
However i am over 30 and just under 6Ft

As i said this is just my opinion

FitRider 921 04-13-07 02:50 PM

I need a small toptube because I'm a bit short.

gnr rocker 04-13-07 07:35 PM

haha, the mod is a midget.

wethepeople 04-13-07 07:40 PM

Actually, I'm like, 5'10-5'11 and I ride a shorter toptube then him.

But I'm steppin' it up soon.

FitRider 921 04-13-07 09:04 PM

I'm 5'7", so I am not classified as a midget, thank you.
