Just attempted to fix my bike and didn't do so. I spent over an hour with my dad trying to set up the straight cable and can't get it right. The cable hanger is a pain in the ass. I hate brakes.

your mom doesnt want you riding but your dad is helping you build your bike....

No kidding. its not rocket science to put a straight cable on. Did you cut the cable to the right lenght and everything? How hard is it to slide the cable into the hanger bolt and tighten it down?

Yeah, the cable has been cut to the right length, but I don't think my dad really knows what he is doing, and I certainly don't. I think he is overcomplicating things. When it's warmer, I'll take it outside to look at it myself.

How can you not know what you are doing... I dont think it gets anymore straight forward...

I know, but for some reason, he's had problems with the cable hanger and it's causing the brakes to just not have the power they should. It should be a pretty easy fix. It's hard to work on things when it's still 30-40 degrees outside.

My dad tends to do that too sometimes lol.

can you post a pic of the what seems to be the problem area?
maybe they just need adjustment?

Now my bike has been moved to the garage with two corvettes... not a good idea to do much in there.

Not mine to sell. The vettes in the garage are my dad's pride and joy. He restored them himself.
