painting a BMX bike...

How would you guys go about doing that? i think im going to strip it down to bare metal with aircraft stipper or something and then paint it. but im not sure what to use for paint. (spray paint, i dont have access to a gun or anything). thanks!

KinetikBiker 04-22-07 12:03 PM

Strip it down by either, aircraft grade paint stripper, sandpaper and your hands or a sand/bead blaster. Just use regular spray paint, and do lots of coats. Make sure to use clear coat so it doesn't scratch.

You can also search for a local powdercoat shop and see if they will do it for you, but that might cost a bit.

so it wont rub of from pedaling and stuff? also what should i tape off? all the bearing races?

wethepeople 04-22-07 04:52 PM

Make sure to use a good primer too.

F.T.W 04-22-07 07:55 PM

wethepeople 04-22-07 08:44 PM

God dammit, do you go to a damned catholic school where they beat your hands with rulers? How can you be so bad at typing? Are you jesus? do you have nails through them?!?!?!

cwt341 04-22-07 08:46 PM

no i go to a regular old public school.my typing isnt even bad and i get my point across maybe just the prettyiest(sp??) way but i get it there

FitRider 921 04-22-07 08:48 PM

Word. Learn to type or learn go to another forum. Everyone is saying something religious-based today. By a show of hands, how many people were forced to go to church today?

EDIT: Cwt, this is your final. Make your typing "pretty."

wethepeople 04-22-07 08:49 PM

No, you don't.

See this thing right here ,? It's called a coma, learn how to use it and run with it.

If I walked into a church, I would most likely burst into flames.

Rough up the finish a little bit with steel wool or somthing and that's all you really need if you get self etching primer.

Get Dupli-color self etching primer, whatever color you want, and clear coat. Do 2 coats of self etching primer, about 4 coats of color and 2 coats of clear. You should have a really durable paint job if you do it right.

Btw you can get Dupli-color at Autozone or any other major auto store because it's car paint (it has a spray nozzle on it and it's aobut $6 a can).

cwt341 04-22-07 08:52 PM

i've been to church like twice in my life i think

I can't stand it. ADD is at it's worst there.

I feel your pain.

F.T.W 04-23-07 12:52 AM

so how would you get all the stickers off of the normal base coat?

MadMan2k 04-23-07 12:59 AM

They should come off, or at least get soft enough to peel off, using the stripper. That stuff is hardcore, it burns if you get it on your skin.

Blow dryer to make them soft (on the hot setting of course) then use some kind of solvent to get the goop off, like wd40 or something.

F.T.W 04-23-07 02:10 AM

It's part of the forum guidelines. This is not a blog. This is a forum.
