Project build/restoration complete.

Some of you may remember my other thread about restoring and building up an old pos Magna 16" bike for my sons 5th birthday. Thought I'd post a picture of the final result:

He should be pretty stoked on his birthday next month.

Well, here's what I did.

1. Broke the bike down completely including BB and headset bearings.
2. Inspected and cleaned everything I could, tossed out what I didn't want to keep.
3. Used a heat gun and razor to remove alll decals. Ground off rear brake guides on top tube.
4. Used 000 steel wool and metal polish to remove surface rust on frame, wheels and fork, crank, and headset.. This took about four nights working 2 hours each night. After a final polish I put on some turtewax.
5. Reassembled with new bars, grips, pedals, tires/tubes, chain and pads.

Thats pretty damned nice, but I agree with fuzzy, some higher bars would be nice. But then you know your son better then us.

You say his b-day is a month away? Turn it into this, it's only taken me about that long .

For the size he is (he's pretty small) the bike in general might be a tad too big, so I wanted to makes sure the bars were comfortable for him. They should do fine till he grows some more.

Thanks for all the comments, it was a fun project.
